About

Maghera Parish Caring Association was founded by the Church of Ireland Parishes of Maghera and Killelagh, in response to a vision over the needs of our local community. The MPCA employs staff to cover multiple project areas, including Youth, Children & Family, Seniors, and Community Outreach.

This blog brings together writing from many different people on our staff team and beyond. As such, what appears here may not always represent the viewpoint of the MPCA or the joint parishes!

For more on the MPCA and the churches it works with, click to the main website here.

If you're familiar with our work, and would like to contribute to this collaborative blog, just e-mail your scribblings, photos, links, etc. to blogs@magheraparish.co.uk. We can't promise that everything will get past our Basement-dwelling censorship elves, but if it's good, we'll share it with the world!

Isaac Hanna Instituted as Rector

The Parishes of Maghera & Killelagh came together last Thursday (27th May) to celebrate as the Reverend Isaac Hanna was instituted as our new Rector in a service at St Lurach’s Maghera.  Parishioners joined with local community representatives to welcome Isaac in a service led by the Bishop of Derry & Raphoe Diocese, the Right Reverend Ken Good.

The address on the night was given by Canon David McClay, rector of Willowfield Parish in Belfast, who opened up the Bible to offer encouragement.  He looks at specific examples given to us from Old and New Testament of personalities and characters, and puts forward that these characters are needed within our church in order to build and move forward.

New Rector Appointed

This Sunday past saw the formal announceIsaacment of a new rector for the Parishes of Maghera, Killelagh and Upperlands.

The Rev. Isaac Hanna has been serving in the Parishes of Dungiven and Bovevagh since 2004.  Originally appointed to the Parish as a Church Army Officer under the Rev. Irene Lyttle, Isaac was himself ordained in 2008.  The Parishes have continued to grow and prosper under his stewardship, and so we are incredibly pleased that he would now consider moving to lead and nurture the work here in our Parishes.  It is currently expected that he will be instituted in Maghera in the summertime.

Please consider praying for our churches, for the Parishes of Dungiven and Bovevagh, and for Rev. Isaac and his family.

You can find out more about the development work of Maghera Parish Caring Association in the section on our website.
